Our attention to fine detail and precision craftsmanship, the cornerstone of our reputation, can be seen throughout all the custom homes we build. Vanderbilt Family Builders is committed to designing and building distinctive homes, not  “cookie cutter” homes to maximize profits.

Most people can only dream of building their own custom home. If you are lucky enough to have an opportunity to build your own home, choosing the right builder will go a long way in helping you complete your home on time and on budget. Vanderbilt Family Builders can serve as your design build contactor, taking your custom home from design through completion or we can work with your architect/designer to create your dream home. Whatever you choose, rest assured that Vanderbilt Family Builders always delivers homes that will stand the test of time.

If you are considering building a custom home, think about incorporating some of these recent custom building trends:

  • Go Green: Consider using energy-efficient appliances, low-VOC paint that improves air quality, recycled materials for resource conservation and environmentally friendly cabinetry.
  • Use Concrete: There is no other kitchen surface material as unique and customizable as concrete. Unlimited by color, size and shape, concrete countertops provide freedom of design, artistic potential and architectural versatility. Decorative concrete floors are all of that, with the added benefit of being cost competitive with tile, carpet and wood.
  • Incorporate a banquette into your design: Banquettes allow increased room for the dining area in the space, and create an intimate feeling.
  • Build a Master Suite: In addition to creating a large bedroom, modern master bedrooms are incorporating retreats, office spaces and spacious walk-in closets, with built in cabinets, mirrors, lighting, and dressers.
  • Create a “spa-like” Master Bath: The bathroom has become a proper room in the home, much like a bedroom or a library. Popular elements of a modern master bathroom include, double vanity sinks, plenty of storage, a stand-alone shower and “soaking tub” for rejuvenation and unwinding after a long day.
  • Carefully choose fixtures: Polished brass and chrome bathroom fixtures are out, while faucets with warm finishes that create a more sophisticated look are in. Today’s most popular bathroom finishes are Satin nickel, Brushed chrome, and Oil rubbed bronze. Some homeowners are blending fixture finishes.
  • Make it convenient: Modern home designs incorporate what owners really want - a blend between convenience and looks.
  • Curb appeal: Many homeowners are choosing to use realistic faux stone to enhance their home’s look on the outside.
  • Color matters: No longer are white walls “en vogue”. Choose colors that create the mood you want to convey within each room such as light colors to brighten the kitchen or warm colors to soothe in a master bath. According to design professionals, Pantone's 2008 Color of the Year, Blue Iris, is the hot new color for the home.
